What is PAJSK? Why is it important?

PAJSK stands for Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani, Sukan Dan Kokurikulum. It is a standardized marking scheme of extra curriculum for primary and secondary schools under Ministry of Education (MoE, or KPM, Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia). In the past, schools had different ways of assessing co-curricular activities, and this led to unequal marking for students.

How do teachers access students in PAJSK?

There are 3 main components that teachers use to access the students in PAJSK:

  1. SEGAK test
  2. Co-curriculum
  3. Extra Curriculum

SEGAK Test

This is a mandatory physical test that is conducted twice a year for all schools (primary and secondary) under KPM or MOE. The fitness components measured in SEGAK are explained in the Sukatan Pelajaran Pendidikan Jasmani Sekolah Rendah dan Menengah.

Co-curriculum

Every students is supposed to take part is ALL 3 different type of co-curriculum, namely:

  • Clubs/Associations
  • Uniform bodies
  • Sports

Note that the co-curriculum marks are crucial for students because 10% of the merit points for admission into Malaysia government universities (UA/IPTA) coming from here. This is also the reason why many students with good academic result but poor co-curriculum performance were rejected by the universities.

The calculation of co-curriculum points could be confusing for some. The are total of 3 aspects and 6 elements involved here.

1st aspect: Involvement

  • students will be measured based on these 4 elements: Position, Level, Commitment and Contribution

2nd aspect: Participation

  • only 1 element here, i.e. attendance

3rd aspect: Performance

  • the only element to measure is the accomplishment of the student in this co-curriculum

Extra-curriculum

Extra-curricular activities are optional activities that students can participate in during or outside of school hours. These activities help shape a student’s character in a positive way.

The marks earned from these optional activities will be added to the highest average marks from two out of three co-curricular activities, including Clubs/Associations, Uniform bodies, or Sports.

Is PAJSK important?

PAJSK point consist of the co-curriculum points that made of of 10% of merit points for those applying to Malaysia government universities or MRSM (Maktab Rendah Sains MARA). If you are aiming for courses that are highly competitive, such as medical, engineering, etc, it will be very useful to make you stand out of the crowd.

Besides, even at primary school level, PAJSK performance will be useful for applying to SBP (Sekolah Berasrama Penuh) as it is very competitive as well. This applies to other conventional SMK (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan) too.

How to check my PAJSK point?

After teacher enter the PAJSK record into the system, students can check their PAJSK scores online here: https://pajsk.moe.gov.my/

How to check if an event is qualify for PAJSK points?

Since 2022, MOE has imposed a rule that any competition or event that charges participants a fee, will NOT be eligible for PAJSK points.

If the organizer insists that their paid event is grant your child PAJSK points, best is to check with MOE first before committed to that event.
