What is Sekolah Amanah?

The Sekolah Amanah program (also known as Trust Schools Programme) was initiated by the Ministry of Education as part of a transformation program for public schools through smart partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Sekolah Amanah will be managed by both private sector partners and government school leaders, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM). This allows Sekolah Amanah to make decisions more easily and be responsible for improving student performance, such as deciding how the budget is spent and how the syllabus is taught.

Schools administration still in charge of these areas:

  • Curriculum
  • Staffing
  • Procurement
  • Pupil policies
  • Utilisation of fund collected
  • Timetable and school calendar

So far, the AMIR Foundation is the only leading sponsor of the Sekolah Amanah program and has appointed LeapEd Services Sdn Bhd (LeapEd Services), a local education service provider founded in Malaysia.

The Sekolah Amanah program is a five-year program that involves private sector partners helping designated schools identify their key performance areas, develop tactical plans, monitor and improve their performance, and ultimately achieve their targets in a timely manner. Throughout the program, the school administration is expected to take ownership of the performance of their school and maintain the momentum even after graduating from the program.

Two of Sekolah Amanah, SK Kempadang in Kuantan, Pahang and SMK Kampong Jawa in Klang, Selangor, were the finalists of a global competition, World’s Best School, in 2022.
